The five stages of a romantic relationship

In a Star Trek Voyager episode, Harry Kim mentioned the five stages of acquisition. According to the Ferengi they are (Wikipedia):

1. Infatuation: An unreasoning love or attraction … "I want it."
2. Justification: Moral excuse used to explain … "I must have it!"
3. Appropriation: To take to one's self in exclusion of others … "IT'S MINE AT LAST!"
4. Obsession: A compulsive or irrational preoccupation … "Precious!"
5. Resale: The action of selling something previously bought … "Make me an offer."

Now, I couldn't help myself noticing an striking resemblance to something else. Don't they look like the stages of a romantic relationship? Of course they do! They just need a little renaming. Infatuation is falling in love, boyfriend girlfriend stuff. Justification is getting engaged, finding some good reason for being together. Appropriation is no other thing than marriage. Obsession also known as honey moon. Then I would add a 'steady state' which can last a long time. Maybe we could call it 'appreciation', the stage of being satisfied with the transaction. But if it doesn't last long then we go to the last stage. Resale, or if you want---divorce.

So there you go. The stages of acquisition have a one-to-one (almost) correspondence to the stages of a romantic relationship.
